Welcome to the February issue of GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES! The weather’s getting colder and snow is starting to fall—all the more reason to enjoy the warmth of the indoors while exercising your mind. As always, these pages are chock-full of entertaining challenges. In honor of Presidents’ Day, you’ll want to try our cover puzzle, “Presidential Pastiche.” Can you identify the five former U.S. presidents whose features make up the unusual face on the cover? You’ll also want to try “Politically Incorrect” (page 40), which tasks you with reuniting each president pictured with the familiar quote he really said.
Highlights of the puzzle section include “Wild Shopping Spree” (page 10), a logo puzzle by Shawn Kennedy; and “Paint Tetrominoes” (page 30), a logic puzzle by Rodolfo Kurchan. There’s also “Crypto-Madness” (page 20), a new puzzle by Craig Turner that is somewhat similar to Cryptolists, but with a few twists to make it a bit tougher. So, what are you waiting for? Get comfy, grab a pencil, and start solving!
CORRECTION
Due to a printing error, we omitted the byline and author bio for the article “A Golden Age for Mathematical Puzzlers” on page 36 of the Holiday issue. The article was written by Jason Rosenhouse. His bio should have appeared as follows: Jason Rosenhouse is a professor of mathematics at James Madison University. He is the author or editor of seven books related to recreational mathematics, including Games for Your Mind: The History and Future of Logic Puzzles (Princeton). For the 2023–2024 school year, he is a visiting professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
