…From the Editor
The puzzle-packed August issue of GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES is here to help you beat the heat! Wherever you choose to solve—poolside, under some shade trees, or at home with the AC blasting—you won’t run out of puzzles anytime soon.
You may know that the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad, more commonly known as the Summer Olympics, will take place from July 26 to August 11 in Paris, France. But did you know that you can compete alongside the athletes with our own version of the Olympics, “The Summer GAMES”? It’s a six-event contest metapuzzle masterfully crafted by Todd Kreisman. Even if you don’t have an athletic bone in your body, give it a try!
Other standout puzzles in this issue include Shawn Kennedy’s “Industry Shakers”, a logo identification puzzle; “Making Other Arrangements”, an anagramming challenge from the website kindahardpuzzles.com; and Rodolfo Kurchan’s “One Up: Holes”. “One Up” debuted in our May issue and was received very positively by solvers, so here are more puzzles to satisfy your new addiction!
Here’s another bit of news: The results from our Reader Survey (published in the June issue) indicate that many of you are in favor of bringing back the Letters/Laundry/Eureka page from the former GAMES. So we’re going to give it a go! To refresh your memory (or to explain if you’re a more recent reader), Letters are pretty self-explanatory. If you send us an interesting or timely letter related to games or puzzles and we publish it, we’ll send you a GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES T-shirt.
Laundry refers to letters about significant errors or mistakes that you’ve spotted. We’ll print the first or most entertaining letter or email on the subject. Similarly, Eureka is dedicated to those venturesome spirits, who discover a more elegant, or more complete solution than the one we gave. If you find such a solution, send it in. Any reader who has either a Laundry or Eureka submission published will receive a T-shirt.
Letters, Laundry, and Eureka emails may be sent to [email protected]. We will send an acknowledgment if your email is chosen to make sure we have your permission to print your letter and your name. If you prefer to use snail mail, please send correspondence to: GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES, Attn: Letters/Laundry/Eureka, P.O. Box 184, Fort Washington, PA 19034. It may take us a while to gather enough letters for a page, but count on seeing this feature return in an upcoming issue.
Happy puzzling!
