Welcome to the September issue of GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES!

As always, there’s something for every solver in these pages, but crossword enthusiasts are in for a special treat. On pages 59 through 69, we present the puzzles from the 2024 American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, which took place this past April in Stamford, CT. For the second year in a row, GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES sponsored the ACPT. My fellow editor Raymond Simon and I were there to represent the magazine, and we had a blast! See page 59 for more details about the event, then dive into the puzzles. We guarantee that they’ll challenge and entertain you.

Fans of the New York Times puzzle sensation Wordle will enjoy Peter Gordon’s “Cardle”. It’s a solitaire version of Wordle that requires no electronic device or internet connection—instead, it can be played on paper and uses illustrated hands of cards to provide clues. Turn to page 36 and give it a try! If you enjoy the three puzzles in this issue, pick up a copy of Gordon’s book, Word Solitaire: The Secret Word’ll Be in the Cards, where you’ll find many more similar puzzles.

If logic and math puzzles are your thing, there’s plenty in this issue for you. Don’t miss Michael Rios’s “End View” and Rodolfo Kurchan’s “Ebony & Ivory Closed Circuits”. Variety word puzzles are amply represented as well—Shawn Kennedy’s “Earth Movers”, Jon King’s “Super Sixes”, and Anna Chisholm Dickinson’s “Quint-Essential” are just a few highlights.

And wait…there’s more! Can you spot the Hidden Contest in this issue? See the table of contents for information on how to enter. Five lucky winners chosen at random from among the correct entries will each receive a GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES T-shirt.

Finally, speaking of T-shirts: Last issue we announced that the Letters/Laundry/Eureka page will be returning soon, and that any reader whose letter is published will get a shirt. The submissions have already started trickling in—please keep them coming!

Now, sharpen your pencil and start solving!
