…From the Editor

Welcome to the May issue of GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES! We have a lot of ground to cover in this message, so rather than a traditional “From the Editor…,” this is more of a “listicle,” if you will.

• First, we at GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES are delighted to announce that we will be sponsoring the 46th annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. The ACPT will be held from April 5 to 7 at the Marriott in Stamford, Connecticut.

• By the time you read this, tickets for the ACPT in Stamford may already be sold out. But there’s some good news. Even if you can’t make it in person, you can still register for and participate in the virtual tournament. Virtual contestants will solve all the same puzzles as the in-person contestants, including bonus puzzles. Online solvers are ranked against everyone else solving online. It’s a great way to share in the ACPT experience! John Temple of Amuse Labs, whose software conducts and scores the virtual ACPT, says: “It’s a wonderful online community that participates. I think it could be much larger if people knew how much fun it can be, how friendly the others are online, and how they don’t need to worry about the contest aspect as much as enjoy the experience.”

• Back to this issue: If you notice this issue’s cover, you may have guessed that we’re excited about “One Up,” a new logic puzzle by Rodolfo Kurchan. It’s similar to sudoku in some ways, and just as fun and addictive! We think you’ll enjoy it as much as we do.

• And there’s much more to this issue, including the first installment in our new GAMES WORLD OF PUZZLES Mentorship Series. In this edition, longtime contributor Christopher Magan partners up with novice Anna Chisholm Dickinson to create a mini special section of puzzles. We hope you have as much fun solving them as Christopher and Anna did creating them!

Now, sharpen your pencil and start solving!
